A Great Night Out |

A Great Night Out Thinking to surprise my wife when I suddenly hit upon a winner, If you like to dress and look the part, I’ll take you out for dinner. Her answer was a smiling face, so to a nice restaurant we will go, My first idea was the local pub but it‘s a thought I must forego. She said, let’s go somewhere nice where we can have a lovely meal, A glass of wine while our thoughts entwine and our happiness we reveal. Fairways restaurant we decide upon up the road from the Lancefield pub, We’d been there a couple of times and we knew they served good grub. Lynn the owner welcomed us and showed us to our seats, I remember the last time we’d eaten here I backed up for repeats. Norma started off with Chardonnay while I chose something sweeter, It‘s a brand I always drink at home and I buy it by the litre. Then we started off with pumpkin soup, the very best I’d ever tasted, I scraped the bowl completely clean; not a single drop was wasted. We peruse the menu up and down to decide on our entrée, Mountain trout all braised in stout but fresh oysters won the day. The drink waitress hovering close at hand quickly fills our glasses, The quick attentive service offered here, few restaurants surpasses, Main course time has finally come; the right choice is hard to make, Grilled fish, roast pork with apple sauce or will we try their steak. We don’t have very long to wait; the steaming plates are on the table, To say you’re hungry leaving here must surely be a fable. The roast pork melts within one’s mouth helped on by the grog, The wife says, I can’t eat all my steak, I’ll take some home for the dog. I’ve always much enjoyed my sweets but now the choice was great, Pavlova, strawberries, apple pie but I finished up with sticky date. The wife was battling to finish her’s, she said, I’ve over eaten, But I finished off my sticky date, who said that I’d be beaten. We finished off with coffee and cream and chocolates if you please, In fact I felt so very full, I was very frightened that I’d sneeze. And embarrassing tho’ the outcome might be, I made it safely to the loo And glancing at my fuzzy watch I knew that home time was overdue. We paid our bill, we’d had our fill, our thanks were most sincere, We promised to come back again as the wife’s birthday was drawing near. So we headed home satisfied and content from this enjoyable interlude, The only regret was that we’d over indulged in all that glorious food. |

If I hadn't made cookies today and sampled a few to many this would have made me very hungry. Ida |
