One of Felix’s clients
arranged a summer job for him,
up in Eagles Mere,
Pennsylvania.

Felix’s old lady,
she said okay.

Felix thought he’d give it a try.

He met some nice people there.
They were rich,
had loads of money.

They were nice anyway,
they treated him right.

They gave him money,
with no tricks attached.

All he had to do,
was run around the dinning room,
and pass out pickles,
and butter chips.

He got to wear a nice
white uniform.
That was fun too.

He met some nice college girls.
They pretty much ignored him
because he was just a scrawny kid.

No one bothered him.

Bobby

The only time was  good, good enough not to be  bothered. I am glad that Felix was not bothered then.

Thanks Tom.

Yes it was a great summer.  One Felix and I will never forget.  As you say, it was good not to be bothered.

I am glad Felix enjoyed the "non bothering", to be left in peace can be a great gift in itself, yes.

But better than "non bothering" would have been the feeling of "being loved". There are controversial aspects when a poor kid is used to serve the rich. But I am glad he has good memories of that summer.

Thank you for the glimpse of sunshine here.

love

RDB,

Yes, it was a fun summer.  I made a lot of friends, and grew not to hate so much.

Earth Angel,

Yes, it wasn’t bad at all.  I picked up a lot of knowledge that summer.

Margherita,

Thanks Hon, I’m glad you enjoyed the sunshine.  In so many ways, that summer gave me something to live for.  It was a profound influence for the good, I suppose.  At first I was dead home-sick for the hood.  However, I got over it.  The food was good, and there was enough of it—nice tips too.

I am enjoying this story a lot,

It came from a one single part of the story

to a on-going wonderful story!

Passing shadows,

Felix would take care of you, you know he would, but the place shut down years ago.  I think after losing Felix, the place kind of gave up the ghost.

a segment of Felix's story that I can likely most relate to...
even though Eagles Mere has, of course, changed dramatically,
I still hang out there and in its environs (the 'endless' mountain forests.)

applause for this 'penning!'

Secondhanddreampoet,

Thanks, and I'm glad you can relate.  That was a time Felix will always remember, and cherish.  He enjoyed those mountains, although you’ll never get him to admit it.

This is my introduction to Felix.  He sounds like a good kid doing his job.
