And as he sat in Wetherspoon's, drinkin' whiskey and eating some pie, the Kid caught his eye. Lookin' kinda cocky in the corner. Eyes front, chest out, a huff a puffin', scared of nothing, it was like lookin' in a twenty year old mirror. The Kid caught his gaze and called back across, 'And who might you be sirrah?' Well the cowboy couldn't quite believe what he was hearin'. Did this kid know how close to trouble he was nearin'? He really should be more careful of the words he was selectin' to use. He was clearly neglectin' the kind of respectin' that he thought was the least of his dues. So in the roughest, toughest General Custer voice he could muster he called back, 'D'ya wanna know who I am son? I'm the last cowboy in Wolverhamp-ton' 'No' said the Kid, 'That ain't right. You ain't the last no, not quite. See I'm a cowboy too, a much better one than you. Why don't you come outside? Then we'll see what you can do.' Well the cowboy threw back his liquor. A test to find out who was quicker? This kid had a big mouth and he'd just put both feet in. All this kind of talk made the cowboy baulk on the piece of pork on the end of his fork that he was currently eatin'. But did he have this kid's beatin'? The gauntlet had been thrown to the groung and he couldn't let word get round that anyone had his defeatin' And this was his chance for that one final dance with the annals of history. Like all those heroes he'd seen on the silver screen and at Xmas on t.v. And all these thoughts went running through his head 'til eventually, 'Yeah o.k. that sounds like fun' he said. TO BE CONTINUED... |

Yo Simon, Is this London? It sounds more like the Bull Ring in Birmingham. I like this loads. Bobby |

Thanx Bobby. I always regard praise from yourself as high praise indeed so again, thank you. This is set in Wolverhampton which is quite near Birmingham & is somewhere I once had the dubious pleasure of living. |

Aha! I looked for the sequel ~ and I found it! ~ and VERY much enjoyed it! I like your story-telling style! It read like a story but was rhyming and metered! I'm staying tuned for part three of this western saga! Great job, Simon! Saddle up, cowboy! EA |
