Seize the day.

I wish that I had seized the day,
instead, I let it slip away.
The fault is mine, I can’t deny,
subtly it passed me by.
So now I try to win the hours,
the minutes, the seconds, time devoured.

In arrogance my laurels rested,
by brighter stars my triumphs bested,
the lofty heights, I felt I’d reached,
mere stepping stones for those beneath.
I cannot keep the hounds at bay,
I wish that I had seized the day.

I welcome you back to these pages, because I see you entered in 2000, but can't remember having seen you recently.

I love your well written poem. It is a very significant reminder!! There are regrets, but there is your new awareness now and it means you can begin anew.
