My closet
opens with memory
shoes from the 70's
and pink pocketbooks a plenty
from when I was a younger girl

It is deep
with Elvis and the Drifters
The Beatles and
the Youngbloods too

Faded posters and old LP covers
I procrastinate still
to bag and toss

Photos of me
and my girls
in the old neighborhood

So many have jewels
have lined
my shelves

The clutter of my mind
stands still
when I rummage through

I digress each time
I try to pack it up
afraid I will lose
who brought me to
this place I view.

I love this...you have captured in a few words the predicament of many.  Especially liked this:

"I digress each time
I try to pack it up
afraid I will lose
who brought me to
this place I view."

Very k o o l write, my friend...much enjoyed the read...reminded me of my daughter's room when she finished high school, and how hard it was for her to 'pack & stow' and move on...we took pictures from every possible angle (the walls were a bulletin board covering all four years of high school).

::smiles::     I love this    I have many such "time machines"   Old Savoy Brown covers, from which the albums have long been absent. Concert ticket stubs, posters, belt loops from the jeans of ex girlfriends.  View Masters and reels, 8 track tapes, braids of hair, buckskin jacket fringes, comic books...

I cherish my time machines

thank you for this

Such an easy way to get lost over a weekend, sometimes forever, if we pack-rat too much...

but a lovely write!
