Dianthus is the latin name for carnations not mums
though both grow best in sunny spots, at least where I come from.
While hosta with its broad green leaves appears to have it made
in plain or variegated form when planted in the shade.

Clematis is a creeping vine with most exquisite blooms,
an arbor or a trellis helps to give it growing room.
As any seasoned gardener knows, perennials are preffered,
for annuals one must replant each year which is absurd.

Perennials will reappear each year with little care,
three years, re-dig, divide, re-plant and you'll have some to spare.
While some will argue annuals cannot be beat for show,
I beg to differ with them all, it's how your garden grows.

Defining in quite simple terms my own green rule of thumb,
spead fertilizer like these words, enjoy for years to come.

Alison,
Thanks, I decided to save some time and work the definitions into the poem. Glad you liked.

Dear Moose, I now realize that you are a doctor to flowers as well as one to we human beanies!

I like how your garden grows! ~ and I am tucking this little beauty away!

Well, Doc, you followed the guidelines to the letter and may I say, created an excellent piece of work, thoroughly enjoyable

Aside from that, allow me to scream FOUL!!!!

I had not intended for people to use scientific or specialized words pertaining to specific areas, such as plants. I could write the same using different bones of the body or chemical elements. In the words I used in my kindergarten days, you FUDGED! With the exception of variegated all of the unusual words you used were floral names. I would like to see some rare adjectives, nouns and verbs get worked into the poems. Get you mind out of the garden!!!

I agree whole-heartedly, I was wondering if you would point that out, ( shoulda known! ). Thanks, I'll submit another.
