Smiling Mask I am short, I am tall, I am shout, I jump and summersault, On my face I wear a smiling mask, For in the world of entertainment I have my task. Before entering the stage, I wore a colorful cloth, To make people laugh I have take my oath, On my nose there is a red cherry, Seeing people with joy, my worries I burry. Entered the stage in a hurry, Told the huge elephant don’t you worry, Looking at me everybody, laughed and clapped, They call me the joker, the clown. The poor chap. Performing on the stage, I am talented in my own ways, Ending up being funny anyways, Parrots, Dogs and Elephants are my friends, A small mistake and everything could come to an end. I am a human so should I be treated, Outside the stage with giggle and sarcasms I have been greeted, Still wearing the smiling mask, oh sorrow be gone, Today it’s me, tomorrow it’s someone and the show will go on. Dear Prasad, this is deeply poignant. They say clowns are the most melancholic beings on Earth and surely it is not easy to make people smile, when the heart is heavy. We all happen to "perform" every now and then and put on the mask, as society requires. But to bring smiles to others is a wonderful gift for both sides. May your smile spread within your heart today. Beautiful and deep poem. Love, Margherita |
