Angelo knows
what some people think of him
and people like him.

They don’t trust him
or his people.

People view Angelo and his people
as some kind of a threat,
just because they’re poor,
and live in the bad part of town.

When people drive
through his hood in their cars,
a lot of them see Angelo
and his people
sitting on their stoops.

They automatically
roll up their car windows.

They think Angelo
and his people
are going to at least rob them,
and perhaps even steal
or murder them.

It would be amusing to Angelo
if it didn’t hurt him so much.

Angelo knows that he’s all right,
and so are his people.

Bobby

I wish I could tell Angelo how much I like him, but he went and grew up before I had the chance.  Joyce

It is indeed painful to be misunderstood to the point of being mistrusted without good cause. Prejudging people is a problem we still have to address. This poem sums it up so very well.
