Well..ten years back we could see sparrows everywhere is Bangalore..these days i can rarely spot one.. wonder what happened to them.. I sat in my balcony alone, Weird thoughts in my head had flown, Had few grains in my closed hand, Far away could hear sounds of the Sparrow band. Sitting in my balcony under the sun, Started to throw the grains one by one, Towards the grains they made a quick run, Seeing them peck the grains was fun. Sitting in my balcony I saw them built their nest, With cotton, wool, straw and the rest, Sitting in my balcony saw them built the nest, I wondered if that small space was enough to rest. Years passed by, I sat in my balcony alone, The Sparrows had gone, their nest were blown, Had few grains in my closed hand, Couldn’t hear any sound of the Sparrow band. Wondered if I could see a Sparrow, Heard the scientists say chances were narrow, Why can’t man give back nature what he borrowed? Come back to me, Oh my dear Sparrow! Peck away all the grains of sorrow. "Hardwork pays in the long run" |

Oh, there is such depth and sweet longing in this poem. I love this very much, it's totally after my heart. I too miss the sparrows, there are newcomers in the town, like ravens and seagulls, but less sparrows. I love their liveliness. We have swallows and blackbirds too. I love them all. Welcome to Pip! Love, Margherita |

Global climate changes are disrupting centuries old bird migratory patterns, re-locating suitable habitats, as well as changing all flora/fauna balances. These may be part of the scenario affecting your sparrows, if some virus, bacterial, or other environmental pollution problem have not been primary causal forces. I'm also wondering about habitat devastation in breeding/nesting areas caused by tsunamis and other 'natural' disasters. The sparrow is a friendly common visitor to many areas here in the US. I hope s(he) returns to your beloved homeland again! Thank you, for sharing your heartfelt concern for Gaia's feathered friends! http://www.birdlife.org/index.html |

This poem reflects the sadness I feel when I realize that animals and birds are not as plentiful in my area, or just are no longer there at all. Good writing, Prasad. Alison |
