Angelo attends Stoddart-Fleisher Middle School up on Spring Garden Street. His English teacher decides his class could stand a little enrichment in American culture. He walks them down the street a couple of blocks to Seventh and Spring Garden Streets. There’s a big red brick house there. It’s up a few blocks from Angelo’s home on New Market Street. It’s where Edgar Allan Poe wrote “The Raven”. The teacher explains that Edgar Allen Poe had a drinking problem. Angelo can relate to that, as his mom and dad, Sally and Felix sometimes drink too much, and get all rowdy. Sometimes they’ll beat him up when they’re drunk. Angelo would never let on, but he’s impressed. Angelo’s still not going to drink when he grows up. Bobby |

Good for Angelo. I like that boy. But I do not want him to be beaten. Love, Joyce |

I know what it feels like to be abused... I hope Angelo didn't have to go through that for long... |

I'm not good with the whole consoling thing, but I sympathize with the "Angelo's" of the world and wish that abuse never happened. ~Jill |

Thanks dear Joyce, Angelo is on your side. However, in Angelo's neighborhood getting beat every once in a while is a necessity. Everyone is having it done, if you don’t, then you would be looked upon as strange. Somehow Angelo has survived to become a rather famous math professor. Bobby |

Thanks Angel, Angelo only had to put up with it until he became bigger and meaner than Felix. Angelo thanks you for your concern. Bobby |

I'm glad Angelo became a success, children of drinkers have a lot to overcome and I've noticed that they tend to drink too much too or they don't drink at all. Ida [This message has been edited by Marchmadness (06-01-2008 05:31 PM).] |
