Angelo looks out the window,
and sees red brick canyons,
and black crowded streets,
and loads and loads of people.

Angelo has many friends to play with.

Sometimes they fight,
and that’s okay too.
It’s one big happy family.

No one knows who
belongs to whom,
and that’s okay too.

What everyone does know,
is that they all belong here.

When it rains and snows,
they all get wet and cold together,
no one runs home.

No one wants to lose
their place
in the rain or the snow.

That’s the way it’s been
for generations past,
and will remain
for generations to come.

The one thing they have
plenty of here
in these red brick canyons
is love, plenty of love.

That’s way okay.

Bobby

To each his own.  I'm glad love survives in the red canyons.  Joyce

Thanks dear Joyce,

Yes indeed love does exist here, in abundance.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

BTW, I've tried the country, and didn't like it one little bit.  It was way too quiet.

Thanks Steavenr,

For your very kind words.   It’s easy to be casual when you’re writing about a lifestyle that you know and love.

This is my favorite of yours, dear Bobby. You refer of this wonderful feeling of belonging in a very efficient way.

And ... I love to get wet and cold in rain and snow too ...

Love,

Thanks dear Ida,

I have lived in the country, and lived in the burbs.  I didn't like either place.

I love the city of Philadelphia, and everything having to do with this city.

It's not a matter of "making do".

Thanks dear Margherita,

I think the commonality of experiences in our neighborhood is what makes it so strong.

To be perfectly honest with you, I have had times where I have been a tad bit envious of the bonds that are made in the hood. Many have your back covered and they truly are "sistahs" and "brothas". Forgive me, but on the other side of the proverbial tracks, it is often each one one for ~ his/her own.

I like the sense of belonging that can be found in the hood.

Thanks dear Linda,

What you say is true.  Growing up in my own hood there were five of us that were very close.  I considered these friends to be my family, in particular when I was mad at my own family for some silly reason or another.

It's interesting to read your poetry because my life is so vastly different.  I am not a city girl.  I don't like the noise, the bustle, the tall building.  I probably grow weary of all the things that Angelo loves.  I am not fond of the smells and traffic (smiles) and on and on.  Yet, that is what makes us all so different.  I don't like concrete and Angelo doesn't like flowers.  It's all a balance, like a teeter-totter.  I could not live happily in his world and he could not in mine.  And it's okay - we ain't getting married.

Love your writing, Bobby.

Thanks dear Alison,

What you say is very true.  I try never to leave the city.  The country makes me nervous.
