The ghost rattles in the closet.

Leave me alone, I cry!

There is no justice.
There is no rhyme or reason why
I did not die,
   you did.
Go haunt some other bedroom tonight, please!

But the ghost refuses to depart,
reminding me of our eternal
   connection
on the battlefield.

Yo Midnitesun,

I like this one loads.  Shades of Harry Potter.

Much enjoyed, Kacy.  I hope those warrior memories are good ones.  (Smiles)

As they say, "Some memories die hard."

Seriously speaking, if you truly do have a comrade of old rattling around in your closet,
command him to go to the Light and you'll see him there ~ when your time comes! lol

Enjoyed this!

Haunting. I wonder if the haunting is of our own guilt? We tend to believe it should have been us instead of another. I enjoyed this.

Stated with valid excellence.

Chance is a necessary player in the evolution of the soul yet it often deserves all the rage that can be raised against it.

I don't know why. But this made me giggle a little. Its just how you said to the ghost I guess it made me laugh. hahaha

Thanks friends, for reading and commenting.
It started out as part of a longer piece about ghosts that linger and haunt the soul long after the battle ends. It was Gettysburg, Nam, Afghanistan, and Iraq all rolled into one...ie, it was meant to be about the consequences of war in general. Try as I might, I can't seem to do this topic justice. Perhaps, it is because I've been on the fringes but never in the midst of a battlefield. Anyway, thanks to each for reading.

Powerfully rendered uneasiness because of souls departed too early.

Ghosts can't fit in my closet, theres too many skeletons already in there.

Very poignant dear one.
Really enjoyed it!

Kacy, you have done more than armed combattants, and I don't say that lightly.  They are usually only in one war and at most, only for a few years.  Whilst I deplore war and the fact that they had to go through that for 1 minute, let alone years, my point is that you have probably been in the heat of every war spreading/spraying/shooting peace at everyone for as long as you have known the word, "war".  You spread peace in people's minds, emotions, consciences and that is where it needs to start - long before a war has started.  Don't stop and never underestimate the effects of your words whether to individuals or small groups or large groups.  Have you ever thought of giving talks - e.g. at schools, churches, sports clubs, etc, etc, etc?  I think you would be wonderful at that.

As are you, lady Diana. It's comforting to know there are so many brilliant lights around the globe that shine for fairness, justice and peace.

This one reminds me of Fort Jackson...it's probably still buried in silt from Katrina, but we used to go walk the grounds for the re-enactments. I could feel winter in July in those walls...

It's hard difficult to capture, but I think you caught that sliver shivery feeling quite aptly Kace. (No bad jokes today. mea culpa for my odd sense of humor)

Have a blessed Solstice Sistah K!
