A white house
With a long green
Back yard

My wife
Of many years
Making a
Holiday meal

My daughter
Bringing her children
To visit the old man

My son
On vacation
Saying Pop
I found a great place
Not far from here

Let’s go
Fishing

Huan, this aches. It truly does. The loneliness is almost palpable. The life that you would have liked to have had, is ofttimes taken for granted by those who have been blessed as such.

Giving you a warm, compassionate hug,
~ and a nice, home-cooked holiday meal!

Awww Geez John,

An overdose of Ozzie and Harriet--it almost makes me want to throw-up, if you know what I mean.

Yah Bob, I do . . .

But counterrevolutionary
as it might have been
I would have been
happy

Thanks all for reading

John

You always draw me in to read.  Linda is right - this one does ache.

If all the world were to wish for this - or to know that they wish for this - to quote Louis Armstrong in song, "What a wonderful world it would be!"  The simplest things are sometimes the most difficult to attain and the most longed for.  The richest people are those who have them and know they have them, and those who don't, but wish they did.  So that makes you one of the richest.

Beautiful poem.

I agree with Owl. It is a wise person indeed who knows what is truly important in life. Three cheers for Ozzie and Harriette!

When you open up to speak, words just drop off your pen.

I just love that title. Props for that one. The poem itself is not my type of poem, but still touched me.
