What Is It?

What’s this thing I see at night?
Something bouncing, something white
It goes through walls and over chairs
And boy it really curls my hairs

I thought it was a wad of gum
But now I know where it came from
My son had brought it home from school
And set it down upon a stool

When I sat down to eat my lunch
I heard a little muffled crunch
My boy ran in and sadly said
You killed it Dad, and now it’s dead

A friend had given it to him
Because he had a bunch of them
In the pocket of his jeans
A dozen little jumping beans

I had just smashed it to pieces
Remnants in my trouser creases
So this will be my haunted fate
Because a little lunch I ate

I don’t know what sex it is
Not sure if it’s a hers or his
It’s really driving me insane
I guess I’ll call it Elmer Jane

And if you think this tale’s a lie
Then buddy you can just come by
To see something you’ve never seen
A little phantom jumping bean

Yo Sewasham,

Yes, this brings back memories of Mexican jumping beans.  They used to be loads of fun.  Now I'm trying to remember how they ever jumped all the way to Pennsylvania.

found much delight in the poetic tale...hope your son forgave you...brings back memories when i accidently sat on a few of my children's and grandchildren's most precious things.

Adorable little story. I remember when my Mom stepped on our pet worm. My brother and I were in deep mourning.

Oh, how could you?!? ~ Sorry, Steve, I couldn't help myself!

Is this a true story? ~ Oh, there I go again! You bring the imp out in me. You surely must know how much I enjoy your poems for children ~ and for big children ~ like myself!

Delightful!

This made me chuckle! It's charming, and the rhyme and meter make it even better.  Very nicely done, and thank you for the chuckle.

So cute! I had read it before and went "google-searching" for jumping beans ... makes me shiver at the thought of having lunch with those beans! Interesting effects!

The last line is really a treat!!

Love,
Margherita
