Sally Keeps Things Clean |

The steps leading up to the Philadelphia Art Museum are lined with cascading pools. In summer, the pools are filled with rich kids from the apartment complex, and poor kids from the surrounding slums, cooling off, and getting clean together. Some show-up naked. That really doesn’t matter. It’s Philadelphia sisterly/brotherly love in practice. Sally, Felix, Butch, and Wawa are there. The guys are looking after Sally, making sure she doesn’t drown, or get in any other type of trouble. They make sure none of the other guys mess with her in any way. There’s a fight at least once a day. Sally brings along a bar of soap to share. She likes to keep things clean. Bobby |

TomMark, Thanks for the read, and comment. No, these are younger kids, usually about 6 to 12 years old. We hit the streets rather early here in Philadelphia. Bobby |

Bobby, I read every one of your Felix writes several times. It's difficult to post replies to each of them, though, because they get me all emotional, then I'm not thinking with words to post a reply. I'm off somewhere thinking about your Felix, and all the other Felixes out there. This one, though... how well I know those fountains... how many times I've seen those kids there! This write so touches my heart. I wonder if Felix knows that the European sculptor who was commissioned to create the amazing American wildlife that adorns some of those fountains never saw most of those animals in person -- the buffalo, the elk, the moose -- he just sculpted them from descriptions. Please tell Felix that the next time you see him, will you? And please give him my best wishes. I love your writings, Bobby. Love them and look forward to them. |

ArtSolstice, Thanks for the information about the Art Museum sculptures. Felix and I didn’t know that. Thanks also for the kind words on this poem. I’m pleased it got to you. Philadelphia is a beautiful city--the most beautiful part of it being the people. As you know, Philadelphia can also be a very cruel city. It can be particularly cruel to kids like those depicted in this poem. It’s a hard place. I would never want to live anywhere else. Sally and Felix say hello. Bobby |

This one touches my heart in a way that is different ~ yet very special ~ from the other fine installments in Felix's life story. This was very touching and beautifully told. I felt as though I was a part of the vividly descriptive scenario. You are developing the characters which holds the reader's interest. Felix, who is a diamond in the rough, can be very caring and protective. Sally bringing the bar of soap to keep them all clean was a very nice touch. I very much enjoyed this page in the Felix saga! That museum shall always remain my favorite place in the 'brotherly' city (and cradle of Democracy)... [haven't seen it in far too long a time...] significant and continuing applause for this 'write!' |

Margherita, I'm very happy that this came across vividly for you. The art museum is really one of the safer spots in the city. It's well watched over. Bobby |

Secondhanddreampoet, Come back to Philadelphia. Do you remember the gold statue of Jeanne d'Arc in front of the museum. Was it coated in gold leaf when you were here? She's watching over those kids in the pool. Bobby |
