Sally’s out showing it off
at the corner of K and A*
a little past nine-thirty
Thursday party night.

She’s looking good
in that tight white dress
that hugs her frame so nice.

She’s got the big hair
and the big ear-ring hoops
that set off her pretty face
just right.

A big car drives up,
with the “Jesus Saves”
sticker on the bumper.

The driver is a damper guy,
real clean-cut,
he honks his horn,
and motions Sally
towards the car.

He leans out the window
and asks Sally
if she wants to party.

She says,
“Awww, no thanks Hon,
I’m just waitin for a friend.”

You just can’t trust
someone like that.

You can never tell
what they might try to pull.

Sally figures it’s better
to be safe than sorry.

*K & A stands for Kensington Avenue, and Allegheny Avenue under the El.  It’s the main commercial corner in our neighborhood.

Sally sure knows how to read them.  Better a wolf dressed like a wolf than one in sheep's clothing.

Thanks dear Sharyn,

You expressed that very well.  Sally always was a wise person.

This is so vivid, dear Bobby, I felt like being at arm's length.

Thanks Ida,

Yes, Sally surely knows the score.  She knows how to survive.

Sally is a tempest, and not in the teapot!

Enjoyed the read!

Thanks Art,

Your Sally as a tempest takes me back to her dancing days.  You've inspired me.
