Sally’s sitting pale and skinny,
down at the police sub-station
underneath Philadelphia City Hall.

Philadelphia City Hall,
of course,
is a grand old girl,
one of the most beautiful
city buildings
in the entire world.

Sally is a pretty girl too,
just pale and skinny.

Sally’s not near as old
as City Hall.

She’s only eight,
at the cops’ best guess.

The cops found her
with a cotton sack,
something like a pillowcase.

Sally’s stuffed it
with old rags
she’s collected
in the rubbish bins.

The friendly cop
treats her nice,
asks her where she lives.

Sally doesn’t have
any idea
where she lives,
she does know though.
She’d like very much
to go home.

The police have no choice,
they have to put her in a home,
put her up for foster care.

They hope someone
will treat her right.

That’s all they can do.

Bobby

Thanks dear Ida,

Yes, and her life got even sadder when she went into foster care.  In this poem, she's only dead poor.

Robert,

You got me in your poetry net some time ago.  I think that your writing is a picture of life that spans generations and geographical areas.  Your stories touch so many of us.  Thank you.

So very sad, dear Bobby, and still such dramatic situations continue to happen all around the world. It's because people haven't got their priorities right.

Love,

Thanks dear Alison,

I'm pleased that my stories work that way.  You are correct, of course.  Such things happen all over the place.  Thank heavens for the kindness of the police in this story.  Of course they don't always behave themselves.

Thanks Yann,

For reading and commenting.  No, Sally's life is not easy at all.  This story is based on an incident with my Gypsy buddy Anderzej, that happened many years ago.

Thanks dear Margherita,

Yes, you are quite correct.  Such incidents do happen everywhere.

Thanks dear RDB,

I'm sure you would give Sally a home.  Sally did have a home in this one, she just didn't know where it was.

Robert, though I almost never comment on your Felix and Sally stories, I do read through a lot of them. For whatever reason, I've just never gotten "into" them, though I think they ARE well done.  I agree with a lot of the comments associated with them too, so what's my problem about commenting???

Hell if I know.

Yo Jimmy,

No one has to comment on anything.  I would guess you don't relate, or perhaps you relate too well.  Anyway, that's no problem. I just hope you enjoy some of them. My stories are very location oriented.
