Marry Me Mary Oh, that your favor be not taken from me of that which I crave For who is strong of heart that can bear this coat so brave Look not on thy past as a mantle to carry with fortitude But let it cause one to strive for times as friends trued Thine eyes becast my strength to leave thy presence Since without you my life leads a painful penance Entreat me to tarry not dismiss my endearing desire of you Saps my strength and while weak not to divert but pursue Darkness descends enveloping the walls previously seen Reminding the color of my heart should we not be a team Value is placed on shared encouragement by which is shown Illuminating trust beyond other attributes that we own Once joined there'll not be sadness purposefully by my hand Gratefulness graciously offered as together we forever stand Perchance happiness as dreamed we may never parlay My love and devotion causes loyalty for me to stay Dreams of riches, gold, silver, jewels or fine woven cloth Promises be fancy sayings that come like wind of the mouth Gods of lottery smile upon few though many eagerly try Place no faith in chance but deeds of good that never die Whilst thou join with me on clouded road unsure ahead? Prepare for you, shielded from cold and rain, your bed? Little I ask in return for my promise of unlimited valor Be at my side forever, small things shall I ask as favor. |

quote: Lovely write well constructed ... I remain wondering about those "small things you will ask as favor" ... hopefully love will be a reciprocal gift, with nothing left to ask for... Love and best wishes. Margherita |

This was an attempt to be Shakespearean. It was a poem I wrote to my wife (you probably guessed) near our wedding day. (We had previously watched 'Taming of the Shrew' with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.) Too bad I cannot see the post while I write this to reference a stanza or line. The first time I look at it after finishing was I had 5 lines in a stanza and had to lose one so they all have the same number of lines. I had difficulty in choosing one to delete. |
