Sally and Felix make their getaway
after ten o’clock at night
on May third.

They don’t want to run the risk
of being spotted by any of
their foster dad’s neighbors
that might rat them out.

It’s a nice warm night,
and it’s not raining.

Sally instructs Felix
to let her do all the talking
to drivers and other strangers
on the trip.

Felix sometimes has trouble
expressing himself,
because of a serious
stuttering speech impediment.

This is especially true when he is nervous,
and Felix is very nervous this night.

They get their thumbs up,
and make a bee-line for Philadelphia.

They’re in luck.

Their first driver drops them off
at Second and Spring Garden
in the Northern Liberties neighborhood
of Philadelphia.

They sleep that night in a church.
It’s so good to be back home.

Despite Felix's rough life, he always seems to find one true friend. I am glad he has Sally.
