Sleeper

Dawn breaks over the sleeping city.
Golden light flows through the window to strike the sleeping figure.
The curve of a cheek, hair fanned across the pillow.
All revealed by day’s first glow.

A ray strikes one tight closed eye.
Glinting and shining on a dark curly lash.
The light kisses with a slow sweet ache.
And calls the sleeper to wake.

With muffled groan the sleeper turns.
Struggling to hold to nights last dreams.
With a sigh and a smile the sleeper turns her head.
And with a twist and a turn rolls out of bed.

With dancers grace she crosses the floor.
Gazing through the window at the world outside.
With a happy heart she greets the day.
Even though in bed she would rather stay.

But the whole world dances.
And the whole world sings.
Like a new leaf the whole world shakes.
With delight and joy as the beautiful sleeper awakes.
