God's Piggy Banks |

When I was little my sister told me that God has two piggy banks for every person who lives on Earth. One says “bad” and the other “good”. She told me that when we are bad God puts a penny in the “bad” piggy and when we are good, He puts a penny in the good pig. She told me that when we die, God empties each bank and counts the pennies. My sister explained that is how He knows where we go. If there are more ‘bad’ pennies, we go to hell and are sad. If there are more ‘good’ pennies, we go to heaven and are happy. I understood her logic and was put at ease. I knew that I always had a chance to get ‘good’ pennies, and all was not lost when I got ‘bad’ pennies in my piggy. I still offset the bad things I do with good things; and I still think of God up in heaven with shelves of piggy banks waiting to be counted. Our names are painted on each pig and we are filling them with pennies with everything we do, good and bad. ---- Alison |

Alison, This is a very nice poem, well written. You wouldn't happen to know where these banks are in heaven, and who's in charge of them, would you? Bobby |

This is a very serious poem. I like the thought that one can control his/her destiny. I enjoyed the read through the logic of a child's developing mind! |

Art, Thank you. Yes, it's serious to me. I still love how my sister explained something that could have frightened me - in a way that I could understand and comprehend. Alison |
