Departures

If I truly love
her as I claim
I must not only
allow her departure
but give my blessings
to her endeaver,
for who am I to
stand in the
way of love,
for if she wants
to go away
how could I
get in her way.
Please tell me
someone, why this
seems like on of the
hardest things I've
ever done...

Hello James, I think exactly the same way, if you really love someone  let her free, we must get used to that...Getting older I don't want or need possessing someone even there is  always temptation, that is not love...

Holding a butterfly captive would eventually cause its wings to wither and die. However, when you allow it to fly free and it returns back to you, you are gifting both yourself and your treasured papillon.

Being selfless can have its just rewards! I have some understanding of what you are going through, dear Hawaii Man.

Thank you Alison, 2islander2, Earth Angel and Artic Wind for the wonderful responses...
I was wondering why, when you love someone, it is so hard to imagine living without them; and noting that love is not holding on or possessing, it is sharing...and perhaps that is why it seems hard; because when you are sharing love with someone you want it to continue, like a circle...James

perhaps the bard of Avon said it best:

I don't think one can truly possess another in a loving relationship unless such possession is mutual, and in this union freedom is prerequisite, otherwise one or the other has to submit to enslavement, and that is a failure in the "art" of loving---ala, Erich Fromm.
