* I have a broken spirit I left my mom at age four The Social Worker came She took me out the door. I have a broken spirit My mom has gone away They tell me she's in rehab I know that she won't stay. I have a broken spirit I know my mom does too We were too close together now I am really blue I have a broken spirit Dad is gone for good He only wanted to hurt her so she drank the pain away I have a broken spirit I have lost my mom for now I hope someday I'll find her It makes me cry out-loud I have a broken spirit Divorce is a hurtful thing What it does to the children Makes them feel that they're to blame. |

I had a mother who drank also. My mother and father didn't divorce. They just stayed together and fought it out for what seemed like an eternity. Take some advise from one who has been there. Forget the past and try to build a healthy future and a different kind of life for yourself. Your ability to write about your problems will be a great help to you. Ida |

Thank you both for your replys. I wrote an article about the foster care system as I grew up in it. I wrote this poem to go with it to show people how it felt to leave my mother. I am over it now, but I can still get in touch with those feelings. Hugs Kimberly |

Jody5, This is well done. Foster care is the pits. Now that you're out, make sure you look out for number one--you. Bobby |

Marge; You are such a great person Thank you for your comment. r v wood; I am honored that you found my poem intriguing. Artic Wind; It was sad at the time and it gave me an understanding of my own life as I also experienced divorce. Bobby; you are right about foster care and I have a goal to write a book about it and call the book EXPOSED. Sharyn: It has helped me to heal and it helps others to know that they are not alone.
