      Night and Day

In those danger-dark hours
of forlorn imaginings,
behind our vacant nightlong
  windows...
when we feel most like
  phantom shades
trapped in a broken mirror’s
  uncertainty,
or lost in infinite journey
  to nowhere...
seek solace and wonder
in what grand new dreams
  may grow
at the roots of the fine
  white clouds,
which fill your daylong
  window!

Oh, I do like the thought of letting
"the roots of the fine
  white clouds"
fill my "daylong window"!

Secondhanddreampoet,

This is pretty good.  Somehow I've never felt like:

" phantom shades
trapped in a broken mirror’s
  uncertainty,"

I wonder if that's a bad thing.

This poem haunts me. I've returned to it several times now as it summons up all those small-town memories. The eternal tumble of dark and light... the darkness in the light; light in darkness.

Especially:

"behind our vacant nightlong
  windows...
when we feel most like
  phantom shades
trapped in a broken mirror’s
  uncertainty,"

Beautifully written, well crafted.

Bruce,

Beautiful and hopeful.  I love the word images that you have created and, even more, I love that you touch my emotions with them.
