Let’s All Sing a Song Let’s all sing a song, I heard somebody shout And give thanks for the rain that’s so long overdue, For many years now the land has been locked in drought, For there‘s not been a thing that anyone could do. For nature has a habit of running full its course And most times things turn out okay in the end, I know there are times when we’re filled up with remorse And some help to nature we would like to extend. It has been several years that the drought’s been at hand And spread her talons o’er the mountains and plain, Both water and stock feed have both been in demand The whole population has good cause to complain. Every week the storm clouds build up in the West And fervent hope for a break is everyone’s prayer, But the clouds drift away over the distant range’s crest And the whole landscape still remains dried out & bare. Then one day the storm clouds spread out inky black And a cold wind swings around to face the West, Jagged lightning now explodes in a giant thunder crack And hope for that break rises high in every breast. Then over hill and valley and across the rolling plain, The thunder growls a warning, the lightning spreads its arm Slowly there’s a pit- a- pat , oh will it be a decent rain, Or like so many times in the past, will it be a false alarm. The rain is falling heavier now in a surging sheet of water, It fills the creeks & bends the boughs & washes clean the dust, The cracks fill up and soon there’s mud in every quarter, Now after waiting months for rain the cropping now’s a must. It’s not only farmers but the whole population rejoice And everyone’s invited to join the happy throng, At parties people celebrate and then you hear a voice, Ringing out, loud and clear, let’s all sing a song. |

LindsayP, It seems that Australia often has very serious droughts. The last time I worked there, I suppose about fifteen years ago, I watched Australia burn. Don’t worry. The rain will come, hopefully in time. It’s still a great country, and continent. I’d like to see it again sometime, but probably never will. Bobby |

I join in the celebration of the much needed godsent rain! You really made me long for rain with your captivating words. Here we have had enough, but just this evening I noticed the level of the Tiber was very low. We have now beautiful Spring weather. Thank you dear Lindsay for this. Love, Margherita |

From my friends I have learned that a lot of Australia is arid. I can understand the farmer`s frustration. |
