                     Garden Guru

Peter Cundall is his name, he’s on the tele’ every week
The garden show at one o’clock, at great gardens you may peek,
He makes it look so easy with all the vedgies that he grows,
Rhubarb and asparagus and all the other things he sows.

He often takes us on a trip to see gardens of great note,
So many types of English trees & about natives he will quote,
From the South coast of Tassie’ to the rain forest of the north,
To show us the best of all the gardens he happily takes us forth.

Roses are most people’s favourite, grown widely across our land
And when a new color is nurtured there’s always great demand,
Petunias are my favourites, flowering right throughout Springtime
And perfume exuded by flowering stocks is really quite sublime.

In Spring & Autumn every year they hold the open garden scheme,
To some it’s a great ambition, to some it’s just a dream,
People come from miles around and even from Interstate
To see the Macedon Ranges Gardens & of their attributes relate.

When winter sneaks upon us and dark shadows start to creep,
The English trees all drop their leaves & quietly go to sleep,
We batten down the hatches & prepare for winter’s cold
And wait anxiously for Spring flowers, more valuable than gold.

The pleasure one gets from a garden is a genuine boost for the soul,
It relaxes the nerves & tension & should be everybody’s goal,
It’s been said and even quite often, right from the time of my birth,
That you are nearer to God in a garden than anywhere else on earth.

Beautiful poem, LP and you are so right. That's what I've been doing the last few days, repotting my hanging flowers (I love Petunias too) such pretty colors.
Getting my little piece of heaven ready for summer. The weather is beautiful right now, great for working outside.

LindsayP,

This is well arranged, and has good end rhymes.

Gardens are dirty work, I stay away from them.

Oh Bobby, you don't know what  you're talking about.  Nothing dirty about good firtile garden soil.

I'd like to see Australian gardens
Just once before I die
And English formal, Irish wild
To give their way a try.
But I'm still of the opinion
I could travel around and round
And not find more floral beauty
Than in my own loved Puget Sound.

Thanks for the great endorsement of my favorite activity.  Australia sounds enchanting to this gardener.  Joyce

How true, how true, dear Lindsay. I still dream of my childhood garden, now I have only balconies ... but still I love to tend the flowers. I celebrate every little bud that grows. My favorite Spring flowers are lilacs and then the paeonias. Wonder of wonders.

Wonderful! Thank you for this!

Love,
Margherita

Splendor is to be found in the garden.
