Elkhart Street is a narrow, hungry street in our crowded hood. There is only space enough for one car to pass. No parking is possible, it’s just that narrow. Elkhart Street’s houses are built right up to the curb, with just a narrow sidewalk. When there is an event down on the Delaware, traffic can be a problem on tiny Elkhart Street. Sally, Felix, and Wawa live on Elkhart Street. They’re in bad shape for bread. Felix wants to go mug someone. Sally’s the thinker. She says nah, that’s way too risky. Sally has a plan that’ll put them in the money. It’s the Forth of July, there’s to be fireworks on the river. Cars are on Elkhart, lined up, single file. Sally’s got Wawa stationed on one side the street. She’s placed Felix on the other. Sally’s spotted a likely mark, a rich looking couple in a Caddy. She gives the signal, and Felix and Wawa throw their sweaty, shirtless frames across the hood. They start pounding on the hood. Felix is making faces, and Wawa’s licking on the windshield. He’s making a horrible mess. Sally raps on the ladies window. The lady rolls it down. Sally shouts in the window— “Hey, I can pull these guys off your car— gimmy two dollars and they’re history.” The kids move from car to car. People sitting on their Elkhart Street stoops are laughing and cheering the kids on. It turns into a profitable evening. Bobby [This message has been edited by Robert E. I wish Felix would hang with Sally more often. That way he would always have something to eat AND stay out of trouble..Im liking Sally, that is one smart cookie....Thanks Bobby for a happy one, we needed that John |

John, I'm glad you like this one. Sally is modeled after a little Jewish girl from my hood. She was a sort of "street mother". She was tough, but always fun, and helpful. Bobby |
