Born to Die

Life’s one and only guarantee
is one of Death for you and me,
no other promise can it make
however long your Life may take.

In certainty we can be sure
that Death will be the final cure,
for nothing we can ever do
will change the end for me and you.

Is Life or Death the spirit’s home,
are both just places that we roam,
and are these places where we dwell
both shared again by Heaven and Hell.

If all dimensions interlink
maybe mankind should stop and think,
for Life and Death and Heaven and Hell
may form eternity as well.

Life’s one and only guarantee
is one of Death for you and me,
but Death may hold a promise too
depending what you choose to do....

Ivor G Davies

The moment created this second, is a  moment that's going to last.
It lives the full spectrum of time, the future, the present and past.

Ivor,

This was okay for me until the third strophe.  That kind of didn't make sense to me.

I think I understand what you are saying, Ivor. I think the poem infers that we live and die over and over again until we learn the lessons we need to learn, or maybe it is just my interpretation. at any rate, I like this poem very much.

I believe nothing I do will alter my destination but I can & do make daily decisions during the journey. It is the friends that cross my path in the here and now that matter to me more so than the journeys end...  John

Hi Ivor

Selective deafness is my guise
Of course it helps to close ones eyes
I have met some folk, sure so have you?

I prefer to say I was born to live, and that death is out to get in the way of that! But let me say I get the meaning of your poem, and enjoyed reading its sobering message.

Best wishes,

Art

I love life but view death as just another adventure.  Did enjoy your poem.
