Not Today Trepidation made me only go as deep as my knees – All the way, cried my soul, all the way. Gradually the waters took half of me – life paused. All the way, cried my soul, all the way. Fear of living brought me here, but the alternative is darker than the darkness of life . . . isn’t it? All the way, someone whispered. All the way. The wetness of salt touched my lips. Yes – on the wind. No – from somewhere. And I cried, spread my arms in the swells, looked up at the sky – remembered you. No, I heard as a wave went by. No – on the wind, and from somewhere – No. No. Not today. © wesley james beard, jr. march 2008 ...not about me... |

JW, I am so glad to read that last line, I was getting worried & had to hurry to the end to make sure...I did go back for seconds after I knew it was not you...take care, John |

It is quite a reach to write a poem like this about someone else, JW. I am so glad it is not about you. Take care. Ida |

Jimmy, my friend, You just capture me and hold me to the very last word. I also appreciate when you tell us if a poem is not about you. You sure do write well. Yep, you do. Alison |
