Felix is walking home
from a clients place.

He’s thinking that
he’s getting too old
for this.

He has to find an easier way
to make what he needs.

He walks past a liquor store
and a gun shop.

Something clicks in his head.

There's a cop on the corner,
watching him.

Bobby

Spotting a cop can certainly be a deterrent to committing a crime!

Bobby, you've set the scene but didn't spell it out, so to speak, and let the reader make his or her own assumptions.

It was like watching a clip from a movie.

Hopefully happier days will be coming his way.

Linda,

Yes, happier days are coming--however, probably not for Felix.

He may be entering the shadowy realm of "Behind Closed Doors", in more ways than one, if you know what I mean.

*** Let me guess, Bobby ... um, Felix buys a bottle of liquor, gets drunk, buys a gun and kills the cop ?

*** Second guess ... Felix wrestles with the cop, steals his gun, shoots the cop, then robs the liquor store ?

*** Third try ... Felix calls on his gang from the 'hood' ... they all beat the cop up, steal a bottle of liquor from the frightened liquor store owner, beat the stuffings out of him, steal all the liquor they want and throw a 'hood' party ???

***Next theory ... Felix knows that the cop is on the take, so he asks to borrow his gun, and the cop gives it to him to use while the cop goes whistling down the street (he knows Felix will bring the gun back when he's done.) Felix robs the liquor store owner ... cleans out the cash register, shoots the owner, grabs some liquor and meets up with the cop a block away ... returns the gun ... and pays the cop off ??

Can we choose the version we like best, Bobby ?

FELIX gets sent to prison for his antics !

I don't go to Behind Closed Doors ... but sure hoping that's the fate that Felix faced~

Oh ... Felix has a client ?
Didn't know that~

Oh, okay ... I was just trying to come up with a scenario that would explain Felix's thought that he had~

There are endless possibilities~

I'll be interested in knowing what he was thinking~

What he should do is by a case of  liquor, get the cop drunk, steal his gun & sell it to the gun shop for 4 times what he paid for the booze....

Yo Folks,

Thanks for all the thoughtful speculation.  However, Felix is thinking what he spends a great deal of time thinking about.

“He'd like to have something to eat.”

Be patient please.

John,

It's a good idea.  However, Felix can't get the idea of eating something out of his hear.  That pretty well crowds out any real planning on his part.

In the film The Cradle Will Rock, presented in the form of a Brecht theatre work by Tim Robbins, a group of men who influence the artistic trends of our society are discussing social realism, such as the works of Diego Rivera. They say something like "We can't have this kind of art around. We can’t allow it to gain popularity. It reminds people that there are problems in the world related to economics, race, and social position. Let's kill it. Let's promote abstract art, because it doesn't say anything about these particular issues." And they do. That is true history folks, an authentic dialogue meticulously recorded influencing the arts for decades to come.

Bobby’s works – I read each new post several times – give us a view into this dimension of society. I’m happy that you’re here, Bobby, reminding us to have a social conscience, reminding us that not everyone has always had it good, and that some of us still don’t. Your works remind me every day to look around and see what I can do to be useful to the Felixes of the world.

ArtSolstice,

That is a beautiful thought.  Felix, as a fellow human being deserves good things to happen to him, the same as any other human being does.

Because he's had bad things happen to him, is no reason for his fellow humans to abuse him further.

We should all be useful to one another.  That's the way it's supposed to be.

Secondhanddreampoet,

What you say is true.  However, we have to remember that "gardens, beaches, picnics with noodle-salad and such..." can be an artificial, and shallow existance.

Putting one foot in front of the other (it's a common survival method) Felix has but one thought...food.
It's a damn shame some find the need to interpret the juxtaposition of alcohol/cops/gun store to Felix survival walk as implying the protaganist has anti-social criminal intentions.

Midnitesun,

Thanks for the kind words on this poem.  Everyone should be grateful to the Felix's of the world that more of them don't turn to anti-social activities.  It's just something that never crossed Felix's mind.  I don't know why it wouldn't.  Perhaps just an innate human goodness and the ever present hope for better luck.

Hope always dies last--then who knows.  Felix is young yet.
