If one were to freeze an ocean wave motion, what would a motionless wave feel like? Something like a mound, maybe a cone? What would snow clouds feel like if one could catch them in free fall? For sea ice is already forming in the Canadian Arctic. Each day, the Sun sinks lower in its path across the sky. Winter is already on Her way. And the drama, the clash of air masses that plays itself out each year, is coming round again. It's the greatest show on Earth. And admission is free! Yes SD. And if people understood the importance of the polar jet then they would plan their winter vacations more carefully. SC |

My geosciences degrees are from Penn State University, which has one of the best Meteorology and Climatology programs in the world. Sadly, there are rather many things that most folks don't understand about the weather, particularly the incredible potential impact of global warming! |

Nice weather piece, Jaime! Yes, it's that time of year again, when the shorts are still on but the coat stands ready for action. It was hot and muggy here today, with some thunder showers. Hope this fall is pleasant for you in Denver. |
