love at first sight…
like jet-puffed pillows
of roasted toasty tan
with the gooey stuff inside…

or like warm and welcoming
bulging bosoms
of favorite aunts
waiting with smothering hugs…

prickly-heat greeters
beckon from diamond-back trails
and arid foothills
that could flood in a flash, they say

past the giant turbines
wooing mother nature
in fancy dancy twirl
stirring inner thoughts of the world

for many a desert traveler
on this scorching black ribbon trek
and is that a mirage or a mini-mart
steaming on the horizon

Mojave…

a fire-breathing wind
bakes me to my bones
and for just a short while
I think…

I could call this place home

Hi, K! This was a pleasant surprise ~ to see a post from you.

"and is that a mirage or a mini-mart
steaming on the horizon"  lol

Wherever you travel, may it feel like home!

With love,

Linda

oh, lady, you transported me back with this one! Growing up in California meant knowing Mojave, the Tehachapi. My feet warmed just thinking about those blazing lands and hillsides. Good to read you again, Kahlil!

You transported me to a place that I have never been.  I don't think that I could handle the heat, but you make me want to try.

Thank you for the mind photograph.

I do like tehachapi....stallion springs...the mornings when it is chilly and the air is new day noise..

EEK!  I forgot about this one, which I rewrote
later, and got sick of in the process!
You know the ones...they come back to haunt.
I did love traveling this area though, it was
a delight for the senses.
Thanks everyone.

I don't know where this is, but you certainly made me FEEL it.

or like warm and welcoming
bulging bosoms
of favorite aunts
waiting with smothering hugs…

Very nice metaphor!

Enjoyed your words greatly.

Love,
Margherita

I don't like the dessert much but I love this poem. Been there.
