Memories As I sit here now and reminisce, my memory’s right on track And I see again a little boy with a schoolbag upon his back, My first day at school is as clear today as it was all those years ago Sitting up behind Pop on the horse & see my tear bank overflow. There was only one male teacher in our tiny one room school And to make the new kids feel at home was usually the rule, He made us feel appreciated, Joe Johnson was his name For three short years he taught us on his teaching road to fame. Thinking of those schooldays in those far off days of yore I was just an average pupil, not the sharp knife in the draw, The three r’s was what they taught us with a strong touch of discipline To sound our words correctly and that swearing was a sin. I remember well the fun we had long ago in youthful years All the love and laughter, the good times and the tears, At weekends we’d go rabbiting with the dogs and rifles too Our chance to earn some pocket money when extras were so few. Through our years of childhood all we knew were droughts Dust storms and water shortages that filled our mind with doubt, But you don’t miss what you’ve never had & it makes you more defiant I’m sure it enhances character and it makes you self- reliant I remember well the teenage years when I first learned to dance Also when I started courting and my love life to advance, Oh so sweet the memories as I live them all again A great time in my youthful years that I can never more regain. There comes a time in all our lives when a cross road we will reach A line between youth and adulthood, a line that we must breach Some are lucky that they know just what they want to do While others take a risky path and their life goes all askew. At the latter end of our life memories are all that we have left The happy memories best remembered not the ones where we’re bereft Wayward thoughts I’ve put aside and are certainly not my nemesis For happy memories come flooding back as I sit here and reminisce. Lindsay, From the sounds made in this first post, it certainly sounds as if you will have a lot of history to share with us, poetically. We will all look forward to reading more of your poetry. Please, check your email for a Very Special Greeting! " It matters not this distance now " Excerpt, Yesterday's Love |

There comes a time in all our lives when a cross road we will reach A line between youth and adulthood, a line that we must breach Some are lucky that they know just what they want to do While others take a risky path and their life goes all askew. I love your poem and its great message, but I am one who simply refused to get off that fence and am still a kid! Welcome to Passions In Poetry. |

Very nice. The memories are all we have at times, but by their very nature, it helps when we mentor our younger family members or young friends. Not to teach or preach, but to share so they can help themselves to the parts they can use in their lives. My young nieces love to isten and frequently come to me with questions. Thank you for sharing, "late" |
