 The Joker ~ Linda L. Dowd ~ In limbo, I teetered ~ ‘twixt “to be” and “not to be”. No longer could I hear the madrigals of birdsong, or love whisperings beneath the willows. My days ~ and nights ~ had become one long, monotonous drone. A profound sadness that I had never known before, washed over me as I floated aimlessly downstream. With sanguine trails drifting slowly behind me, my life force ebbed away with every beat of my broken heart. All the cards had been played in our game of love. This 'write' pretty much 'sums up' my "life story"...I imagine many (most?!) readers will have 'been there' as well (and, sadly, likely more than once)...particularly amid the "Runaway American Dream"! serious applause!! |

Dear Linda, the joker smiles all the time, love to us all is a gift and a choice that is made each day, to keep or throw away. We all need to appreciate its moments and if it leaves; to look back on what it had given. Holding the love within yourself and sharing a little with everyone that you know, will give you more happiness and purpose in life, a warmth that will be with you each day. Having and holding someone close, sharing the day till it flows away sounds so so lovely and good luck and lots of love for those who have found it, life is a search and journey. Linda, I find it very hard to believe that a person of your obvious talent and loving feelings towards others could possibly have such sad thoughts. Rick ~ I totally concur, O Wise One! ~ but then again, I always do agree with what you write. Every poet has a well of emotions, thoughts, and past experiences, from which they draw when reminders of them crop up in their present. I was writing from a place where I once was, but am thankfully not there now. Thank you for taking the time to write such a thought-full response. I wrote of a past experience, however, I have grown so much emotionally and spiritually since that time and am so much stronger now. EA this is my first time looking at your poetry, and i think it is really nice. the joker isnt the best card to pull out of the deck, you should stay with the queen of hearts, and maybe then, the king of hearts will come too you |
