Did We Thank You, Edith Shain? In times of disbelief, for it had to go on day by day, the misering rations of laughter and joy let alone staples of need did we thank you for giving such a gracious show? Families torn apart, too many lives lost in that last, great, war, that we promised [someone] it would not happen again. You sewed such as this secret to your breast because it had been everyone’s time to grieve, and then everyone’s time to believe, again that it was finally over. On this day, August 15, I thank you, because I finally learned that it was you who gave a young man the welcome home he so deserved… http://www.life.com/Life/special/kiss03.html [This message has been edited by Sunshine (08-14-2007 10:41 PM).] |

Wonderful, SIL! Thank you for pinning this. My Mom and I were talking about the USO the other night saying my daughter should volunteer. Somehow, this photo always reminds me of the many young women during WWII who went to USO on the internet and danced with the soldiers/sailors when they were on leave. Anyway, I went looking for USO in NYC to see what they offered our military servicemen and women. I was surprised to see, not much...we need a revival! ...jo |
