she had her jimmy jesus holy water
in a gravel glass griping
fair grounds on senior day
between her toes like cocoa

I didn't know her name then
the tag was hidden under mountains
of funny face silk and sayings
and she was behind the paintings

peeking around at little girls
in strollers making noises
that would sound better on windows
but she used wrist skin candy coatings

then gave me a busty and a belly hug
and a veteran's poppy with stem
that made a new whole in my shoulder
when she kissed my neck too slowly

and made me feel her soft sighed freedom
