The stench must have been from the water below. Putrid and polluted rushing along cutting out the bank from under my feet. Waves break, stretching out along loose stones embracing at lengths carrying them far from safe complacency, a final rest in the river bed. The sun seemed solemn, half heartedly glinting torn within itself, shining but hoping for clouds. Birds sang too, A harmonized dirge from their perch releasing the requiem into the wind, then silence. Through all of it they just stood staring off into the horizon, waiting for God never asking the all to familiar question instead, they only nodded and dryed their eyes. (I've been gone for quite a while, attempting to find an identity in poetry. I do hope that this offering after such a hiatus will be acceptable. Let me know what you all think.) -John nice use of muffin |

Very creative, and evokes all kinds of imagery. I liked it! |

I enjoyed the "harmonized dirge" part. Hope you find your personal song. |

Very sad. Nice images. Last line - you meant "dried", correct? |
