The Lavender House Every day I drive pass the lavender house And I wonder who painted it and who could see That in the winter it warms the stark whiteness Of ice-incrusted trees and snow berms high That in the summer it is a canvas for blazing colors Petunias dressed in garish pinks and purples Falling out of baskets hanging everywhere (Did I mention – everywhere?) Every day I drive pass the lavender house It is a belle surrounded by ranch wallflower s I wonder about those who can see beyond the mundane Who will take a chance when others may bask in the average I would like to know that person who is so brave To see beyond ‘normal’ and splash lavender into my day (And make me smile) Alison |

~ and now you have me "smiling", as well. I like the way you see the world. You look beyond the obvious with your poetic soul and see beauty where others may not. ![]() Love the poem and your spirit! Linda ![]() |

This is amazing. I couldn't agree with Earth Angel more about the pleasantness in how you see the world. The last few words "and splash lavender into my day," ... I am MADLY in love with them. I usually post in the 'Spiritual Journeys' forum, but when I wander back here, this poem is exactly what I want to find. Do it again! ![]() In the sight of Love, fear isn't even as great as a single hair: in the law of Love, everything is offered as a sacrifice |

I understand this 'lavender' person, though I've never painted the exterior of home that color. For me, the shade of periwinkle...a 'sister' hue would make me smile. |

did you tuck this in their door yet? *smiles* I think it would make their day honey. I wish, sometimes, that I could see things through your eyes ... it would be like looking through the munchkin's eyes, I think ![]() love you Sheli |

You know, I just realized that I had failed to thank those who had responded to this poem. I do that far too often, I believe. Even though I don't write the words - I feel the thanks well inside me as I read. Each of you who wrote to this poem mean a lot to me. I thank you for your responses, encouragement and for being my teachers too. Merry Christmas. Love, Alison |

My friend Ello lived in a lavender house! She was very tall and had a different meter running. When I first met her I instantly liked her, She was kind of shy as was I, but we were able to connect. From that day until the day she died we were best of friends. So different and yet alike enough to be able to appreciate each other. She smoked those little brown cigarillos for a while, and sometimes wore a jean jumpsuit. She drove a snazzy sport car until later when she bought a jeep. Ello loved to redecorate houses and bought three or four during her life time. We had fun stripping and cleaning and bringing back the old. She tore out kitchen cabinets and used huge antique cupboards and pie safes in her kitchen. Her kitchen table was an old wooden library table and she reupholstered decorator chairs that had chrome frames, in black leather that looked great around that table and so comfortable! I loved it all. She was free to do as she pleased and her taste was different. She could mix antiques with ultra modern and some really weird things like the kitchen chandelier that had utensils hanging from it and salt and pepper shakers. I could not believe it when we saw it in a store window in Mystic Connecticut and she squealed,"I have to have that". I grew to love it and I wish now I had it to hang in my kitchen just so I could remember her and that crazy day. It was great and passed anyone’s judgment because it was Ello.. I am sure the owner of the house you speak of is another one of a kind.. Thank you for the instant memory with your post."late" [This message has been edited by latearrival (12-21-2007 07:44 PM).] |
