Defined Your death has defined me; I am no longer your wife, your lover, your friend - I am grief. I walk in quiet circles where people whisper in muted voices; distancing themselves from me as though your death - my sorrow - were contagious. They thank God for small miracles, then return home, grateful, to hold spouses and lovers secure within their embrace. I, once, feebly prayed for you to live; then fervently prayed you’d die, all the while cursing the beast that fed on you from within. July passed and I bore the heat of August burdened by the weight of your illness. By September, the you I knew was consumed leaving only bones and flesh in his place - slim feast for any worms. I buried you that final week with the chill of fall in my joints and the heady scent of roses in the air. Your death defined me. No longer half of a whole, I am a part - unconnected. I am grief and though misery loves company - grief lives alone. I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

whew, you have most certainly captured it...as we, my girlfriend and I, have discussed many times....this... I walk in quiet circles where people whisper in muted voices; distancing themselves from me as though your death - my sorrow - were contagious. and, you are not unconnected at all my dear poetess...but even more so now, connected.... this is very tragic and sad.... Please know I'm hugging you Luv Lee J. |

Lee J., Thank you dear friend for your kind words but as with a lot of my poetry this is not based on my life but on a multiple of others lives. Perhaps the reality of the words stems from the intense empathy I have for others sorrow having lived enough sorrow of my own. It is a true compliment, dear poet, that this comes off so true. Thank you, Ruth |

Ruth~~ I see my sister through your words and even though it isn't always a "pretty picture" she remains beautiful to me and the grief and sorrow of missing her does "define me" in some ways, some days. As always a very touching write ![]() M |

I am a part - unconnected. I am grief and though misery loves company - grief lives alone. I wrote a series of poems on grief... but never defined it so well. *S* Excellent work, my friend!!! |
