AUSTRALIA DAY

To live together here in peace, from coast to inner reaches far
In land down under, here our home; a place where all us Aussies are

We stand with family and with folk, to celebrate our Aussie land
To share our passion and a joke, to gladly give and lend a hand

Today we look back on our past, and at a future yet to play
Reflecting on the things that last, and all the things we have today

We have the right to speak our mind, to travel to life’s furthest call
To leave the woes of world behind, to heed the lessons if we fall

We are a country filled with spaces, reaching far and wide to sea
Over time have grown in places, places that still now are free

We come from early years of sweat, from struggle that a spirit made
And though years pass we don’t forget, the building blocks our past had laid

We’re in a country young to others, foundered through sheer guts and will
Created we, the sisters, brothers; beginnings once, remembered still

And some may ask, why so much pride? Why celebrate this day each year?
While you and I both side by side, find answers to that question clear

It is the feeling of the freedom, no war to fight on soil at home
It’s having family safe and happy, the knowing we don’t stand alone

It’s having work to find a future, having mates to give a hand
It’s knowing Aussies stick together, it’s finding that they understand

So yes, today, stand tall together; be proud to call this land your home
For nowhere in this world compares, to what this Aussie soil has grown

Australia day, our day together; our nation’s flag with pride does wave
And matter not the time or weather, we’re Aussies proud right to the grave

So let us spread our joy and pride, let us venture further forward
Finding freedom by our side and Aussie tag our true reward
