We all have seen pettiness, bitterness,
cruelty, arrogance and greed,
in the faces and acts of some
and we sometimes ask our self
"Why" must they act that way
when love abounds today?

It is considered wise
at such junctions in the paths of time
to remember ego's program
which unaware, moves their lives:
it blocks love from entering the heart;
turns childhood trust into distrust,
effusiveness into wariness,
the joy of giving into the need to take:

It is not considered wise,
when confronted by such negativity
to judge the book by its cover,
the face by the mask it wears.

Wiser it is to see behind the rudeness,
beneath the shell of meanness,
to feel a warm breeze emanating
from within the icy stares;
to see a frightened child alone in darkness,
unable to reach the candle
burning softly within its earth soul.

Wiser it is to seek to end
the pattern of ignorance and shame
given early to a trusting soul
and carried forth in pain and agony;
to recognize the innocent child within
full of laughter and joy
seeking the key to life's meaning.

very fine!:

"...see behind the rudeness,
beneath the shell of meanness,
to feel a warm breeze emanating
from within the icy stares;
to see a frightened child alone in darkness,
unable to reach the candle
burning softly within its earth soul.

...seek to end
the pattern of ignorance and shame
given early to a trusting soul
and carried forth in pain and agony;
to recognize the innocent child within
full of laughter and joy
seeking the key to life's meaning."

Applause for this 'penning'!!
