On Evenings Like This (#5)

On evenings like this…

when the moon is finely
dressed in sad beauty,

and our lives…

seem as silver sand
slipping from a broken
  hour glass,
or spindle-sunbeams
in a darkened room,
spinning only dreams
  within dreams’

and we…

seem as snowflakes
falling on a flame,
or nameless trees
huddling in the
mountain mists and
winter winds of time,

our thoughts and words
far too easily lost…
like the murmurings
of a midnight forest,
or grand and lovely
  poems
etched in the dust.

Covet only the peace
that lies beyond ambition;
be like the clouds
and attach to nothing…
but a sense of enlightened
  awe and wonder
of all we have learned,
and so much more…
that we shall never truly
‘know!’

Dear Bruce, Evening like this indeed is very sad and day time will be sadder.

It is tooooooo sad. What a broken hour-glass could tell? time simply stopped forever in memory. And now it was the dream that was measuring  our life. I indeed have passed many day-dreams and nightmares.

so very wonderful poem.

Dear Bruce, you truly are a poet extraordinaire. I can veritably say that virtually every line was exquisite and conjured up vivid imagery and emotion.

Love to you and a hug,

Linda

And I read it as a blunt knife cutting my heart.

Love this.

Secondhanddreampoet,

This is very deep, and it's also well written.

I like it a lot--well done.

Bruce,

The way you've held the lost aspect of all that is good and fine, and winsomely delightful...is a film noir of light...you speak to it, of it, but you don't point, saying "look, there it is!"

You hint, you suggest, you incline towards, you flee from...you allow the reader to recline into your poem, without placing a mirror before one's eyes, but only in one's mind...

but I would have to disagree on one point.

Sometimes, we do, and very well...

"know".

Oh, wait -- now THIS one is my new favorite. How do you do this magic, Poet? It is truly exquisite!
