Spring semester just started today and I had to buy some books for classes (which inspired this poem). My last semester before I finally get my BA in English Lit and apply for the masters program in creative nonfiction. A Text Book of Literary Theory and Critical Analysis I am flipping through these pages of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. 1541 of them. So many, and so skeletal, like onion skin. Trying to oblige all its clout within the boundaries of one tome. So ambitious for the readers and authors. It reminds me; of another text I used to flip through with pages akin to these. So thin but hardly malnourished, also like these. Testaments they were. Two of them. And I recall a point in time where I gazed at those testaments just as I ogle at these pages in front of me now, with the same luster, hunger, and passion. Long ago; when I sat aside those testaments I never fathomed they would be replaced, and on no account sought out to have them be. But here I am, with this tome in my hand, no search was needed, it came to me. By: Joe Houck |

Joe, may this semester go well for you and may all of your educational aspirations come true! ~ And the "luster, hunger, and passion." that you have for the written word will help manifest those aspirations into reality! Warm hug and a smile, Linda |
