Charlie Farnes-Barnes Charlie Farnes-Barnes lived In the bottom of our garden in the dustbin Before the days of black, plastic sacks. And he used to scare me... Because I could never see him But I was assured that he could ALWAYS see me And I can remember peering in to that bin Trying to find him But I was told that he was out But he was ALWAYS out And if I'd have been allowed I'd have waited by that bin All night long Waiting for Charlie to come home. Of course, Charlie didn;t really live in the bin That was just where I pictured him He was there all along it's just that back then I didn't know where else to look. Anyway, one day Charlie passed away And I was a grown-up. But it's alright, Now I know where to find him Now he's everywhere I look And he still watchs over me But it doesn't scare me anymore Now I know he's keeping an eye on me Keeping me safe. And like I say, We don't use dustbins anymore Now, we RECYCLE. [This message has been edited by simon (01-15-2008 11:05 AM).] |

Simon, Welcome to PIP! This is a very clever write, and so vivid. My Charlie didn't have a name but he lived in the basement and chased me back up the stairs whenever I had to go down there. And you're right, I can still see him now and then, I just hadn't thought about it that way. I enjoyed this! |

simon, Welcome. This is a little creepy, is that what you were going for? Nah, just kidding. I like this a lot. I've heard of these imaginary people. I've never had one myself. They probably don't exist for city kid, but what do I know. My wife had one, but she lived in the country. Bobby |

Welcome to the sight. Enjoyed this very much and could the reference to recycling have a double meaning? Ida |

This is adorable. I never had an imaginary friend. i didn't need one with my supply of siblings, but my granddaughter had one. His name was Archie and she was very protective of him. He was very small and we had to be careful not to step on him. Joyce |

Thanx for all the nice comments. The reference to 'RECYCLING' Is related to my Grandad, it's something his dad told him, he told me etc. |
