it's you i'm calling cheri
from the top of the stairs
bare feet plastered to the hardwood floor
and even though i know
i know that
you're deaf
i can smile
and pretend
because cheri
you are the rag doll
the one that sits
in the bottom of that hope chest
in the front hall way
(the one you can't see
because i know
i know
you're blind too)
waiting for it's resurrection
that breath of fresh air

i'd bring it to you cheri
but i'm still at the top
of the stairs
