I never did meet Waylon...

I always hoped I would.

I never went to the Opry
to stand where ol' Hank stood.

There's no Polaroids or Kodaks
of me side by side with the
"Man In Black"

I never sparred with Billy Jack,
but used to think I could.

I never made a lot of dollars.
I've never made a lot of sense.
I never made Dolly Parton holler.
I've just barely made the rent.

I've made a lot of plans
that never made the grade.

I think I have made lemonade.

I have never had a maid...
domestic or French.

I never flew an airplane.
I never drank myself to death.
I never learned to play the harmonica...
I never had the breath.

I never did get offers from
John Prine or Kris Kristofferson...
Begging me to help them write a song.

Billy Joe Shaver aint called neither.

I never made it to the Yukon.
I've never owned my own farm.
Time was never right...
to spend the night...
in Julie Newmar's arms.

Me and Merle never closed the bars...
Willie still aint signed my guitar...
I never was a great big star...
and now... I'm running out of charms.

Time just keeps on going...
'though my dreams are standing still.
Time shows no sign of slowing...
Once you get over the hill.

Yesterday...
I was in my prime...
Rolling down the mainline...
My train of thought...
jumped the tracks of time...

Hear that lonesome whistle blow.

...and from the looks
of that Dream Catcher
that hangs above my bed...

There's a lot of dusty dreams
inside my head.

I never did meet Waylon.

Thank you for sharing these "Dusty Dreams" with us all.  You swept me away with this poem.  I absolutely love it.  I am saving it and I know it will remain among my favorites.

It's never too late for dreams to be started anew... this is the right day to dust some of them.
Great write!
Love and Happy New Year!
