When the mushroom clouds settle
In a pall over the land
When the Earths charred and blackened
By mans evil hand

When dust clouds are swirling
And the toxic winds blow
When acid rain falls
And theres nothing will grow

Then who'll paint the pictures
And colour them green
And who'll tell our children
How things should have been?

When the mountains have crumbled
And the Great Lakes are swamped in mud
When mountain streams are polluted
Andrivers run blood

When the rain forests have withered
Into deserts of time
When the seas become cesspools
And Oceans turn to Slime

Then who'll paint the pictures
And colour them green
And who'll tell our children
How things should have been?

When sunrise and sunset
Are just murky greys
And a hazy red glow
Marks the height of our days

When we've burnished our farmlands
And decimated our towns
Poisoned the rivers
Scorched moorland and downs

Then who'll paint the pictures
And colour them green
And who'll tell our children
How things should have been?

When the mushroom clouds settle
In a pall over Mankind
When we've poison in the air
And infection in our mind

When disease and decay
Take irreversible toll
When our petrified hearts
Pump tears for our soul

Then who'll paint the pictures
And colour them green
And who'll tell our children

....What children?

Dear John, this is a powerful write, it is indeed high time to become aware of what's really going on.

Well done, we need to AWAKEN the world and humanity to LOVE.

Thank you!

Love and Peace,
Margherita

John

Maybe the pictures are painted now by people like you?  This is very powerful and certainly causes me to stop and think.

I haven't welcomed you to PiP yet.  Welcome - I look forward to reading more of your poetry.

Thank you all for your kind responses & Alison for the warm welcome. I shall continue to paint the pictures along with all of the pip family. We can post our art here and just hope & pray that they can be read for a long, long time to come.

So wonderful. It is just wonderful. A question has clear answer but not many people ask.
Good man.

This is a powerful piece warning us of a future gone astray.  Or is it the present?
