It is not just embracing with acceptance
the realization of coming to know
that no matter what it becomes in the future,
that it will never again be
what it once was;

and that those memories
will never again be able to bring
that cherished moment of smile
because they were bred
under the false pretenses
of nothing more than
the imagination

of what we thought them to be

until we learned of their falsities
and our only recourse
is to replace them with ones
born of new

held in the hope
that tomorrow will shine
a brighter truth.

Even now as we say goodbye
to what never was
we continue our search
for a tomorrow that will bring with it
the healing

of letting yesterday go.

Very beautiful, even though so melancholic, dear Donna. Your ponderings resonate within. It is so important to let go, only then we can find peace.

Love and hugs.

Excellent writing. You began the healing process as soon as you aired this piece of work. It has now begun it's trip into your past & will continue to fade into the distance and become part of your lifes journey. We have to experience the bad times in order to  truly appreciate the good ones...

Thanks for posting it.

Donna, I don't know if we will ever be able to replace what was with anything as strong as the feelings when younger...

just a thought

it's a tough pill to swallow ... but if we nibble away at it, we can get it done

very nice writing ... I like how you point out that even the fond memories of happier days grow cold with the turning of emotion

Isn't it amazing the things we realize with time and the wisdom that seems to replace everything else?
