standing on a shadow's lace

Lonely Sound

did I whisper
that I loved you
or dare to say
it out loud
regrets hang low
and heavy
like the grey geese
on the clouds
I try to fill
the spaces empty
my fingers ache
for your face
feathers bounce
off my outline
for I am a silhouette
pencil traced
once there was
a hazy design
where the water
kissed fluid sand
became too anxious
to wet my feet
and the liquid fell
off of my hand
have I missed
my lifetime chance
flocked blending
into the background
to be just another
bird upon the wind
or will your wings
reach for me
with your own
lonely sound

A powerful write with a great ending.

An interesting ‘write!’…

I am especially fond of:

“regrets hang low
and heavy
like the grey geese
on the clouds”;

“I am a silhouette
pencil traced”;

and, the ending:

“will your wings
reach for me
with your own
lonely sound”
