Not Far Away
By Larry Chadwick
I remember when...

There is a land I like to visit and it’s not too far away,
All I do is close my eyes and there’s no limit to my day.
Because it’s not that hard to travel to this place that I like,
Before I know it I am there and I don’t even need my bike.

My mother seems quite jealous of the time that I spend there,
Apparently she has no passport and cannot afford the fare.
She says something about a day dream and wasting so much time,
But if she’d travel once there with me I’m sure she’d think it’s fine.

So I go there when I can and I usually travel alone instead,
It’s often after I say my prayers and mom tucks me into bed.
I lay my head back on my pillow and close my eyes real tight,
Then with very little effort I can stay there for the entire night.

I wish that you would join me in this land not far away,
It makes me think of heaven and makes me want to stay.
Perhaps I’ve seen the future and what my life might be,
If there were not restrictions and I could just be me.

December 24, 2007

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I've been there.  In fact, I visit frequently.  I like the poem, nicely done.

Awww, Larry, how sweet that your mother still tucks you in bed at night. But then of course, by your photo I can see that you are just a little boy (at heart )

This was absolutely precious. I usually go to my special place alone as well, however, if you show me yours ~ I'll show you mine!

Love to you and your family!

Linda

What a sweet poem Larry. The words are flowing so easily. Merry Christmas dear friend and don't forget to travell to your special place sometimes. It's not at all a waste of time.

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

There are many streets in this land not so far away that we both seem to visit every now and then. And, I hope to see you there someday, as well as all our other poetic friends.

Thanks,
Melton from "Happy Place"

So I was laying here in bed, sucking on air from my handy oxygen tank, and listening to my cat (Feta is her name) snore... And I thought, "Hey! I want to read something from Larry." But as it turns out you haven't written anything for awhile. Now thats ok because I haven't read anything in awhile, so I have some catching up to do. Still, you should get to writing, pops.

This is a great poem. I don't know how i'd survive if I couldn't slip away to this place from time to time. I'm pretty sure I see you there too, each time I read you.

Hope all is well for you and your lovely wife. Tell her hello for me. Be well - and be safe on that bike, Mr! Blessings.
